Spiti Cook - Circa 1991

1989 - Stavroiula, Josefi & daughter who sold house to Terry
Original kitchen painted - but cold water only
Small bedroom painted village style
Hot water was in the apothiki where we fitted hot water and showered outside at first
the old bread oven
Basement before 1st renovation
With the basement excavated & concreted, we added a toilet & shower room plus & bedroom/winter dining room 1991-1994
Terry's brother Ken helped construct the staircase from hall upstairs
Toilet & shower room installed

1995 Friend Russell constructed new kitchen roof to keep out leaks
Last Christmas in our old basement dining room 2001
The apothiki evolved over the years, but still included hot water for 2nd shower & washing up
Disaster - fire destroys Spiti Cook May 2002
Totally destroyed inside
but we cleared it before leaving July 2002
Rebuild starts Jan 2003
Workmen find old kitchen still useful
Lower old stone walls secured with band of reinforced concrete
New steps createde inside house
Terry helps by passing bricks to builders
Rafters in place before we leave Feb 2003
Spiti Cook on our return April 2003
Inside a shell ready for us to complete
Work starts inside laying floorboards
then varnishing
Moved in upstairs after 10 days & house warming party 2 days later
Russell comes to help with steps to balcony door

Mike helps with bathroom plumbing while Terry digs channel for waste
new bathroom ready to test
The workers eventually relax!

New worktop & gas hob in kitchen
Kitchen finally tiled & 2nd hand units refitted with new worktop late 2005
After building back wall we tile the balcony - 2006 (Solar water heater top right on reinforced apothiki roof)
Finishing touches - a mural on the outside toilet wall!
