Greek Easter & Other Greek Public Holiday Dates
2017, 2018 & Easter to 2024

To help you plan ahead the following are public holidays in Greece
when banks and public offices are shut.
During the tourist season tourist services tend to stay open 7 days a week -
with the exception of Easter Sunday when very few tavernas or bars are open
and definitely no shops.  Town and village shops are closed by law on Sundays,
but tourist shops will probably be open.
Dates related to Orthodox Easter are moveable based on the Julian calendar (shown in blue italics with year). UK/other Easter Sunday (Gregorian calendar) is shown red to aid planning.

New Year’s Day - 1 January
Epiphany / Theophany - 6 January
Clean Monday -  27 Feb 2017, 19 Feb 2018,
Independence Day - 25 March
Good Friday - 14 Apr 2017, 6 Apr 2018
Easter Sunday - 16 Apr 2017, 8 Apr 2018
(Easter Sunday eg.UK -  16 Apr 2017, 1 Apr 2018)
Easter Monday -  17 Apr 2017, 9 Apr 2018
Labour Day - 1 May
Pentecost -  4 Jun 2017, 27 May 2018
Whitsun Monday - 5 Jun 2017, 28 May 2018
Assumption Day - 15 August
Ochi Day - 28 October
Christmas Day -  25 December
Second Day of Christmas - 26 December

Moveable dates all relate to Greek Easter Sunday, to help you plan further,
Easter Sunday falls as follows:
28 Apr 2019, 19 Apr 2020, 2 May 2021, 24 Apr 2022, 16 Apr 2023, 5 May 2024
In addition to the above public holidays there will be local festivals commemorating local events or name day celebrations for the patron saint of local churches.
Saints’ days / name days in the Greek Orthodox church can be found on www.namedays.gr - you can look up in English or Greek by name or date.
